About Daniel Arvidsson

Professor in nutrition and food science

As nutritionist with specialization in public health and health promotion and professor in nutrition and food science I have two focus areas:

Measurement and analysis of physical activity and energy expenditure, in relation to different markers of health

Behavior science and change in physical activity and diet behavior

These focus areas have been part of my research since I was a PhD student and include observation studies and intervention studies at the University of Gothenburg and other national and international universities.

Physical activity and health

In my employment at the Department of Food and Nutrition, and Sport Science I possess several different roles, which contributes to a very stimulating and instructive work.

I am researcher in measurement of physical activity and energy expenditure, and perform epidemiological, clinical and intervention research at the Center for Health and Performance and at the Center for Lifestyle Intervention in a interdisciplinary research environment.

In addition, I am a teacher with focus on measurement methods and statistics, where the research I do is utilized. In this way, the students are provided the optimal circumstances for learning.

Center for Health and Performance is an infrastructure at the Department of Food and Nutrition, and Sport Science for research and education of nature science character. It includes modern labs in physiology, biomechanics, strength and physical activity as well as a large sports hall. The center combines competences in health and performance.

Center for Lifestyle Intervention is a collaboration between Sahlgrenska Academy and the Sahlgrenska University Hospital, where the Department of Food and Nutrition, and Sport Science is an important contributor. Several research projects are performed in collaboration. The first project started is Lifestyle Intervention with Physical Activity and Diet (LI-PAD), which is an RCT of individualized support for weight reduction ind overweight and obese individuals.
