Research

The Centre for Health Governance research has its starting point with the many challenges the health care sector faces, challenges especially suitable for interdisciplinary, cross-professional and cross-sectorial collaborations.

The Centre for Health Governance brings together expertise from several institutions at the University of Gothenburg, thereby combining qualitative methods in governance research, economic analyses of causal relationships, and expertise in health economic evaluation. This opens up opportunities for unique studies of healthcare organization as well as the evaluation of interventions and new medical technologies. The research results have the potential to improve the organization of the healthcare system, which not only impacts the health of the population but also the allocation of healthcare resources.

The aim is to support a sustainable societal development within the health care sector through research and cooperation between people active within the academy, the public administration and the business community.

Research questions

The center's research focuses on how healthcare should be organized to achieve high-quality and equitable care based on available resources – both at an overarching level and within individual healthcare units. The focus is on how governance models, reimbursement systems, and market structures shape healthcare – particularly in relation to the effects of medical technological development, digitalization, and AI.

The core group of researchers at the Centre for Health Governance consists of governance and management researchers at the Department of Business Administration, researchers in health- and healthcare economics at the Department of Economics and HEPER (Health Economics, Policy, and Evalutation Research) researchers at the School of Public Health and Community Medicine.
