About us
The QoG Institute is an independent research institute affiliated with the Department of Political Science at the University of Gothenburg. In total, we are about 35 researchers conducting world-leading research on the importance of reliable, impartial, non-corrupt, non-discriminatory, and competent public institutions. The number of researchers makes us one of the largest research centers in the world in our field.
The QoG Institute was founded in 2004 by Professors Bo Rothstein and Sören Holmberg.
The main purpose of our research is to answer the question of how we can create and maintain high-quality public institutions, as well as to study the effects of the quality of governance on a range of political areas such as health, the environment, social welfare, and poverty. While the central question concerns the quality of public institutions, we approach these issues from a variety of theoretical and empirical perspectives.
Our research has had an international orientation from the very beginning. We participate in several international research projects and are an active partner in global networks focused on corruption research and anti-corruption efforts.
Researchers at the QoG Institute come from several different countries and together represent a wide range of social science disciplines.
The main goal of the institute is to conduct and promote research on corruption, but alongside our research, the dissemination of information and education has become an increasingly important part of our activities in recent years.
We are also committed to making our research accessible to the general public. Many of our researchers actively participate in public discourse by writing opinion pieces, giving public lectures, and participating in podcasts and different public events.
